About ARC

The Arrowhead Robotics Coalition (ARC) is a group of FIRST Robotics Competition teams and supporters from Minnesota’s Arrowhead region with the mission to promote robotics in the Arrowhead region by educating and inspiring students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We have united and operate under the tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status of Duluth Robotics, Inc. Teams already work on these life skills individually in their respective communities, ARC enables the teams to work together on a larger scale and make robotics in the Arrowhead region a showcase for the state.
The Minnesota Legislature has allocated $100,000 in grants to create five permanent regional robotics practice centers across the state; three outside of the Metro Area. Working in concert with local business and government our dedicated volunteers are working to bring one of these centers to the Arrowhead region and expect to serve 20 to 30 teams in the 2020 season. Without a robotics center in the Arrowhead, our teams will be at a competitive disadvantage.  The center will give the teams more practice time. Unlike other MSHSL sanctioned sports, schools do not have a dedicated field for their robotics team to practice. FIRST teams practice “coopertition” - they compete fiercely on the field, but off the field they share knowledge and expertise working to lift each other up. An Arrowhead Robotics Center will help all area teams lift each other through training opportunities and working together.
To create a permanent regional robotics center ARC needs support from the community. The grant requires that we find a suitable location and secure a match to the grant amount of $19,000. The state grant funding will then be used to install an FRC practice field that meets all the competition requirements of FIRST Robotics. This will allow teams to practice under the most realistic conditions possible. We need financial support, we need material support in the form of machining equipment and tools, we need a building to operate our center from, and we need you.
FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) Robotics Competition is an international sport which is growing every year and is the only sport where all the team members can turn pro. Every FRC team is run as a business and gives a student the opportunity to be a part of that business for four years. The students on these teams are the Arrowhead’s future machinists, electricians, programmers, designers, network engineers, technical writers, marketers, accountants and more. The Arrowhead Robotics Center is an opportunity for business and government to work together to create more opportunities for students and to improve our communities.  ARC is moving quickly as the grantor desires these practice centers up and running during the next competition season which begins with the FRC Kick Off on January 4th, 2020.
